Love Letters From Brooklyn

Williamsburg’s, Jake Bronstein is a 30-year old marketing consultant. Send him your address and he’ll mail you a love letter for free. No relationship required. He tried handing his goodwill notes in Union Square but had no takers. Then, he advertised on his blog zoomdoggle.com and had 1,000 requests for his letter writing services! His success led to problems however because he didn’t budget enough time or postage money for 1,000 people. His witty letters supposedly cheer people up. They'll probably make 1,000 people feel better... much better in fact than his friends who Bronstein asked for writing and financial help when he got overwhelmed.

San Fran Arrests Our Times Square Man

SFO police officers busted NYC’s Naked Cowboy for sidewalk singing in a “restricted” area of their version of Union Square. Liberal as they are on the “left coast,” a New Yorker in his underwear is somehow offensive to their society. Radicals can disrupt church services, illegal aliens are embraced by the local government, but our Robert Burck can’t belt out a ballad in the “city by the bay.” Perhaps a singing cowboy from New York is only welcome out there when part of a larger singing group like the Village People.

Partnership Between People And Technology

There are several groups in Manhattan that employ hardware and software to keep streets safe and clean. One is a non-profit group called The Union Square Partnership. Its members voluntarily walk through the Union Square neighborhood with a handheld ComNET computer (Computer Neighborhood Emergency Tracker). It records things like uneven pavement, graffiti and even stray voltage from lampposts. The info they collect is uploaded into the ComNET computer system which prepares lists of problems. Other Partnership members can then address these problems more quickly. Sounds like a good idea ... while at the same time, taking us one step closer to an Orwellian future.
